Alith - The Road Ahead (Community Briefing)

Greetings Everyone!

We hope your'e all doing well and having a wonderful time in Eorzea with your fellow Alithians. Alith's Final Fantasy XIV journey has been going for nearly 3 months now, and we wanted to take this time to give you all a general update on where our Free Company is right now, and what our plans are for the short to medium term future. Things have progressed really well for us so far, but we know many of you are eager for Alith to go to the next stage in our development , and we're pleased to say that so are we.

Our first couple of months as a guild in FF14 has been focused on building the foundations of our guild, starting with prioritising recruitment to ensure we have an active community. After all without members, we have no community! To have reached 100 members in just two months, has surpassed our expectations and we're so thrilled that you've all chosen to make Alith your home. Not only have we reached 100 members, but we've done it without sacrificing quality for quantity. We will always be committed to only bringing in members who share our core values - being a mature, respectful, friendly, supportive and tolerant community focused on having fun in a casual environment! To put it into context, we currently have 104 members in our guild, and we've declined a total of 49 applicants to date. Again, we'll continue to do our best to only bring in real "Alithians" rather than just going for high numbers.

We know that in order for us to become an active thriving free company with regular fully packed guild raids and social events, we need to grow. We're committed to growing at a healthy rate, while maintaining those high standards, and this is why we recently implemented our Recruitment Team. The team have done a great job, so we want to thank them for their efforts so far. We know the importance of not growing too fast, we want new members to have a chance to settle into our community and get to know everyone, and we don't want to lose that close-knit family feel. Equally, we know that we need to recruit sufficiently to keep up with attrition, while also ensuring we grow steadily. There is a healthy balance to strike, and we will always keep this in mind, taking breaks where necessary if we grow too quickly.

We also know that, as our community grows, we need to ensure that we have enough officers in place to support our people. Having a healthy active officer presence is critical, and this is why we recently expanded the officer team bringing in some new, experienced, enthusiastic leaders to help us make sure Alith continues to stay true to its values. You can all have the confidence that the Alith Officer Team is completely united in our vision and hopes for the future of Alith, and all care deeply about the well being & happiness of our community. A strong officer team is a team who are totally on the same page, supportive of each other with zero friction between them, and we're pleased to say that we certainly have that!

So in summary, we've enjoyed a successful launch, have grown to 100 members, have put in place a dedicated recruitment team and have expanded the officer team as was needed. Good progress, but it's time to move on to the next step of our adventure!

So what's next?

There are many exciting plans we have for the guild, we really are just getting started! We want to share with you exactly what's on our roadmap for the short-medium term, and talk a little bit about what you can expect. More importantly, we will need YOUR input and feedback as we push forward, to ensure everything we do is in line with the desires & needs of the community. So, what's in the pipeline in the near future?

1. Guild House
2. Member Awards
3. Alith Raids & Alith Academy
4. Alith-Cast re-launch

1. Guild House

This is something that we know many of you want, and we do too. Having a free company house that we can call our own is definitely something which is our first priority. It's something that will stamp the Alith name permanently in Eorzea, and will contribute towards our guild pride and identity. We also want all our Alithians to be able to enjoy this content of the game, with each other taking advantage of the benefits and fun that housing in FF14 offers.

So what's the plan? Well the officer team are working hard in getting familiar with the system as quickly as possible, so that we have a strong understanding of what we're getting into. We're also going to be calling upon you guys to share your knowledge, feedback and experience, so that when it is time to buy a plot and start work on building our guild house, we're making informed decisions. More importantly we want to make sure that the decisions we make suit the wishes of our members, so your input is going to be crucial as we embark on this.

We are conscious that with Stormblood around the corner, there will likely be a lot of factors to consider, especially with the timing. No doubt our plan will need to take into account how we plan to fund the purchasing of the land & property, when we intend to purchase, and of course where. We'll then need to consider how we plan to maintain & develop our house moving forward. Again, we're going to be calling upon you guys to help direct us with all of these decisions as we move forward with this.

We're excited to get the ball rolling on this one, and so we'll be putting out a forum discussion post soon to outline our intentions and ask for your feedback, input and direction (within the next week).

2. Member Awards

Alith Member Awards is a program which we ran with much success in our previous MMO, and we're very keen to get this going here in FF14. We have so many wonderful and amazing members in our community, who do so much good and are always being helpful. This is our special way of recognising those members who help make our community the positive, friendly, helpful place that Alith is. We will have a wide variety of awards, including: "Guild Champion" of the month, "Above & Beyond", "Party Animal" and "Event Champion" which are awarded during a fun monthly award ceremony event!

Members themselves will have the ability to nominate and put forward fellow members who they want to recognise, so this is a great way of thanking those who have made Alith a great place to be, and we want to shout about it. The challenge is always trying to remember everyone who's done something special without leaving anyone out haha, there are always so many!

For us, this is so important, because we owe our success to our members, which is why we've put this at number 2 in our road map. We want to launch this fairly soon, but fortunately this does not require a lot of work to get going, so expect to see our exciting awards program arriving in the near future!

3. Alith Raids and Alith Academy

Another program which we know is something our members want, and frankly need, in Alith. We want to create an environment where our members can look forward to a whole range of PvE and PvP activities that they can enjoy with each other. We want to get to the stage where there are guild dungeon and raid events, scheduled regularly using our event calendar, that members can sign up to every week and enjoy. The key to making this a real success, is making sure that there is good variety and something for everyone.

We know that we have members at all levels of experience with a wide range of needs and wishes. We're committed to creating a system which ensures that there are events for both first timers & beginners, as well as the more experienced end-game players. Those of you who have been in Alith in our previous MMO's will be familiar with this setup, which we've enjoyed for many years with great success.

Alith Academy Raids, will be a series of raid and dungeon events, tailored for those who are still new to the dungeons & raids of FF14, and indeed more casual players, who are looking to enjoy the content in a supportive, pressure free, learning environment. These will be led by our official raid leaders who will take on a "Mentoring" role, to teach the mechanics & tactics of the dungeons, in a friendly, patient and tolerant manner - keeping the experience fun, light hearted and focused on learning. Party wipes will be expected, and will likely be followed with laughs and useful discussions to help the team progress through each new challenge without stress. Everyone and anyone will be welcome to take part in these runs, and even experienced players can come along for the fun, to offer support and guidance to the learners too!

Alith Experienced Raids (or XP Raids) will be a series of raid and dungeon events, tailored for our more experienced and high level players, who are looking to tackle the toughest content in the game with fellow experienced guild mates. These will be designed for those players who are already geared, experienced and skilled to take on the tougher end-game content of the game, so you can expect to see certain requirements in order to sign up to these events. The requirements aren't there to "exclude" people, but to ensure that those who sign up to the event, have the gear & abilities required to clear the content and succeed. Since these events will take place in the hardest content of the game (or hardest challenges) we want to set these events up for success, and ensure that we have something for our experienced members, so they can continue to really enjoy their time with Alith.

The key thing here is, no matter what level you are, what experience you have, there will always be something for you to take part in and enjoy. This system also allows our members to have something to look forward to, and an easy way to "progress" through the content of FF14, with fellow guild mates. Those who "graduate" from Alith Academy, then get to look forward to diving into the more challenging content in our Experienced Raids. All these raids will be led by a dedicated team of Alith Raid Leaders! We know that we already have a huge wealth of talented, experienced and helpful adventurers in Alith who we hope will rise to the call when we begin to recruit our Raid Leader team in the near future.

4. Alith-Cast Re-Launch

Finally, we're looking forward to re-launching our very own official podcast & webcast - Alith-Cast. Alith has it's very own YouTube and Twitch channels, where in the past we enjoyed broadcasting this show for all our members, as well as the outside community. This was a great platform for us to be able to keep you all up to date with the latest Alith and FF14 news, while interacting with you guys as well as the outside world. It's also a great way for us to get the "Alith" name out there, and we're looking forward to introducing ourselves to more of the FF14 community.

In the past, we enjoyed sharing and discussing the latest ESO news and hot topics, and even had the opportunity to interview some great people in the gaming industry including game developers on a few occasions. Alith-Cast not only gives us another way to communicate with our members, but it also helps to grow our network with the rest of the Final Fantasy 14 & MMO community, which is positive for our guilds brand & reputation. Aside from all of that, it's also a lot of fun to make and a lot of fun to watch! You can expect all sorts from news, to debate & discussion, to competitions, to interviews and plenty of laughs too!

If you want to see previous episodes of Alith-Cast, you can see the first season of the show over on our YouTube Channel - however please bear in mind the last time the show aired was back when we were still in The Elder Scrolls online. We're super excited to be launching Season 2, now that we've established our new home here in Final Fantasy 14, there is so much to discuss and share, we can't wait! Alas, the show cannot work without presenters - and so we'll soon be looking for people interested in joining the cast as we embark on this new series of the show. If you're passionate, engaging, always up for a good debate & discussion, and care a great deal about Alith and Final Fantasy 14, then keep your eyes peeled for when we start recruiting for presenters to join Krysalan (our resident main host of the show, and "face" of Alith-Cast).

These are just the first four initiatives we have planned for Alith, and are the activities we consider the most desired and highest priority at the moment - but it's just the start! We also want to crank up the Social Events frequency, and continue to make small improvements to the general quality of life in Alith. I'm sure you'll all thinking "That's all great... but when will all these things happen??". While we can't give exact dates, we can say we're intending to have all four of these up and running within the next 3 months. So we're moving quickly. Expect to see a thread popping up regarding our Guild House within the next week, with member awards coming very quickly afterwards. As we said earlier, we know that our community needs and deserves to enjoy all of these activities, so we're driven & committed to get the ball rolling now.

Most importantly, we want to make sure we get it right, so we're going to be involving you guys every step of the way - getting your input, suggestions, views, and ideas as we put the wheels in motion. So we need you all to help us by getting the word out there for the rest of the guild who may not frequent the forum often. The forum is our primary hub for working on all of this, and bringing it to life, so we need your help encouraging more of our members to join in the discussions.

We're stepping Alith up a gear, and we can't wait to watch Alith continue to grow and thrive, with all of you awesome people. Once again we want to thank YOU all for making this the special place that it is. We're so proud of you all, and we're brimming with confidence that we will succeed in our dreams, because we have you guys all there with us, making this happen. Long live Alith, it's going to be a fantastic year!

Kind Regards
Belazarus & Your Alith Officers
